An Edible Mosaic: Middle Eastern Flair with Extroardinary Flair - Review and GIVEAWAY!!
I have been reading Faith's blog for years now, so when she asked me if I would review her new cookbook, it was a no-brainer - a resounding YES!!! And then when Brandy offered me the opportunity to take part in a Mid-East Feast to celebrate the cookbook's release...I was wholeheartedly ALL IN.
Even though I knew I would really like Faith's book, as I am generally a fan of Middle Eastern food, I had no idea how much I would love it. Faith's appreciation of a culture and a cuisine that is not her own really shines through in this book. So much so, that you can't help but get excited about each and every recipe, as she recounts where she first ate it, how it is traditionally prepared, and why she likes it so much. The book is full of personal tidbits like this, along with large, gorgeous photos and, of course...delicious recipes.
As part of the Mid-East Feast, we made the zucchini fritters,
Fabulously enough, the publishers of An Edible Mosaic have offered to give away a copy of Faith's cookbook to one of YOU!!! The company WILL ship internationally, so this is open to my international readers. All you have to do is leave a comment on this post telling me what your favorite ethnic cuisine is.
For extra entries, pin or tweet whichever of the recipes we made for our Mid-East Feast (linked above) you would most want to try. Leave a comment telling me when you do so.
This giveaway will end on November 20th!!

How to choose? Well, I think I have to go with Japanese because I am a little sushi obsessed.
ReplyDeleteI think I lean more towards Italian and Mediterranean cuisine, but ask me next week and my answer would probably be completely different. Ha!
ReplyDeleteI'd LOVE a copy of this book!
Wow! great that it is open to international readers... I love japanese food like Brian but Indian is my most beloved =)
ReplyDeleteYou are one of the sweetest bloggers I know, and I don't even know how to begin thanking you for taking part in this event, Joanne! Really, thank you from the bottom of my heart, my friend. xo
ReplyDeleteI'd love to win this contest. My favorite ethnic cuisine? Probably Moroccan, but I love trying anything new. Congratulations to Faith!
ReplyDeleteSince I decided to become a vegetarian last year I found that Indian cuisine is my favourite. It's versatile; I can adapt meat recipes by replacing with veggies and I am in love with the flavours of the spices!
ReplyDeleteI think I'd have to say Japanese!
ReplyDeleteSO hard to decide! I'd have to say Mexican or Greek - I just don't get tired of cooking either of them!
ReplyDeleteThe zucchini fritters sound amazing - I'll have to give them a try!
The cookbook sounds wonderful. My favorite ethnic cuisine is Indian - so many (tasty!) vegetarian options!
ReplyDeleteI love so many different types of cuisines, but if I had to pick a favorite today, it would be be a close tie between Middle Eastern and Indian. I go back and forth between which two I like more on any given day!

Healthy and tasty root veggie bowl. I would to have a tofu wrap!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Middle Eastern recipe:

Ohh, whats in your root vegetable tagine? Going over to check it out!
ReplyDeletethat tagine looks wonderful! it is so hard to saw what my favorite cuisine is - depends on my mood!
ReplyDeleteI have many favorite cuisines, but I'd rank Middle Eastern right up there. I love the balance of sweet and savoury and pretty much any dish that uses dried fruit. Having a new cook book to guide my further knowledge and exploration of Middle Eastern cuisine would be amazing!
ReplyDeleteI love many international cuisines, I think Indian is my favourite though. I would like to try the coconut semolina cake especially. Would love a copy of the cookbook!

My favorite is probably Mexican, even though they are heavy on the cheese. I am also a big fan of North African. The surprising blend of spices is what gets me every time.
ReplyDeleteI am definitely a sucker for spicy Indian curries. It may be a fad, but I'm wholeheartedly in.
ReplyDeleteThis looks simply mouthwatering ...delicious!
ReplyDeleteIranian food is by far the best. Jewjeh kebabs, gooshteh frerengi, tomatoes, and how much delicious rose water is incorporated?! DELICIOUS!

Picking my favorite ethnic cuisine is HARD! sushi's up there, as is any kind of pumpkin curry - and i LOVE falafel.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite ethnic cuisine is "anything from the Iberian peninsula".
ReplyDeleteBut my new favorite weeknight meal is the Zucchini Fritters from Faith's book that you posted a couple of weeks back. (I confess I've only ever made them with yellow squash, and once when I was short on yellow squash I added in some shredded sweet potato). They are terrific. And easy. And incredibly good with Greek yogurt and a tomato salsa. (And extremely popular with all the eaters in the household.) Seriously, I've made them 5 times. And I'm a restless cook; I almost never make anything more than once or twice.
My favorite ethnic cuisine is mediterranean!
ReplyDeleteI love many cuisines but right now my favorite is Southern American, especially Peruvian. Have you ever tried Ceviche? It's great!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, this is a tough question. I'd say Italian, but being part Italian this seems like a copout, so I'm going to go with Indian food. I didn't discover Indian food until a few years ago, but I'm so glad I did! So many great flavors and vegetarian options, I think it's nearly tied with Italian in my out-to-eat rotation.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I pinned the shawarma!
ReplyDeletehttp://pinterest.com/pin/121808364893055866/
I probably cook more Italian dishes but I love all ethnic cuisines.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite ethnic cuisine would be Greek. I would say Italian but I am Italian so I don't think that would count!!!! I am still wanting to try the coconut semolina cake. I know must husband would love it since he is crazy for all things coconut!!!!
ReplyDeleteIsn't Faith awesome? :) I would say my favorite ethnic cuisine is Chinese (not exactly stretching my boundaries here :P ).
ReplyDeleteAlso, I pinned the Coconut Semolina Cake because dang. That is one delicious dessert.
ReplyDeleteHard to pick my favorite ethnic cuisine, but I think I'd have to go with Thai!
ReplyDeletepinned! :) http://pinterest.com/pin/69172544248119648/
ReplyDeleteHmmm ethnic cuisine... I would have to say Turkish, there is soemthing so intriguing about its flavours :D
ReplyDeleteAnd of course it has turkish delight :D
Cheers
CCU
probably mexican :) although more because i like using their base for playing with my food!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more Joanne - I love Faith's book so much too! I love that they are doing an international give-away, very cool :)
ReplyDeleteI love tagine and a vegetarian version would be amazing!
ReplyDeleteLike you I love Faith's blog.
ReplyDeleteThis roots tangine looks fabulous...and perfect for the season Joanne.
Have a great week :)
By far my favourite ethnic cuisine IS Middle Eastern! I have been cooking/preparing Lebanese food for about a decade now (which stems from having dated a Lebanese guy in my youth and spending time in the kitchen with his stepmother who was an excellent cook). It's total comfort food for me!
ReplyDeleteI do love Middle Eastern cuisine and I do cook often with those flavours but if I'm to be honest I would have to say my favourite cuisine is Thai xx
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to prepare root veggies...I'm doing some for Thanksgiving and your post has got me thinking... =) I hope you're having a great week, JO!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely tagine, Joanne. I like ME food, too, but I think my favourite is now Indian!
ReplyDeleteThis is a tough one, since I like almost every cuisine. If it has to be ethnic (so I don't think Italian counts), I'd have to say Indian. Have loved curries since the first one I made years ago. It's the one spicy food I can eat. Plus it can easily be incorporated into most foods. Although I do love some Arab dishes like tabouli and lots of Greek dishes. See what I mean? Tough choice.
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited to get my copy!
ReplyDeletePicking a favorite ethnic cuisine is definitely hard, as I like (or love) many of them. Mexican and Greek are right up there though, I would say Mexican would be my favorite. I was just at Faith's website and the cookbook looks to be a great success!
ReplyDeletethai food is my fave!
ReplyDeleteI'm a huge fan of Thai cuisine, but I rarely make it at home. It's like a "going out to eat" treat.
ReplyDeleteoof I'm Japanese so I love home-cooked Japanese food, but don't consider it "ethnic" for me... so I'm gonna say Turkish! Is that "ethnic"? Anything with Mediterranean flavors always win over my heart though :)
ReplyDeleteitalian

The poached eggs is one of my favourites! I also want to try the fava been recipe. Have a great day :)
ReplyDeleteSooooooo hard to choose a cuisine I like best, because I love so many. Mexican maybe? The root vegetable tagine looks delicious! :)
ReplyDeleteThat is a tough question. I really love Hong Kong food and Cajun food.
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome. I'm so happy for Faith. I got the email too, but unfortunately couldn't make a promise because of time constraints.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite cuisine differs by the day, but these days, it's Mexican!
Delicious food blog! I've found lots of yummy recipes here..feeling quite hungry now :)
ReplyDeleteThat tagine is filled with such awesome goodies! Heading over to check out the recipe!
ReplyDeleteOh and thanks for hosting such an awesome giveaway! My favorite ethnic cuisine has to be Japanese. I'm addicted to sushi :)
That tagine looks delish. Yummmm.
ReplyDeleteI am a fan of Turkish food now, since there is an in-law who is Turkish.
So exciting about Faith's book. I'm posting a recipe on the 9th. I'd love to win her book...it's going to be a smash hit.
ReplyDeleteThis looks marvelous, Joanne. Love root veggies. I wish I had a tagine....maybe after I move. I was looking at one just yesterday!
I think my fave ethnic food is Japanese.
I think my favorite would be Ethiopian cuisine. Though I do adore the Thai coconut and lemongrass mix....
ReplyDeleteI'd love to win a copy! It's hard for me to pick a favorite cuisine... but I have to say I never once got sick of the food in Israeli and could happily eat falafel and shawarma every day :)
ReplyDeletepinned the shawarma - can't wait to try it!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to get my hands on this book Joanne! It looks super delicious!
ReplyDeleteI love Indian, and Thai - such great spices to incorporate in my cooking!
ReplyDeletei really like pretty much all mediterranean cuisine, but i have to confess that mexican food is my favorite. it's a source of comfort. :)
ReplyDeletePinned the zucchini fritters! http://pinterest.com/tayzikovich/food-and-recipes/

ReplyDeleteThat's a tough choice, but I'd say my favorite ethnic food is Ethiopian, a stewed beet carrot and potato dish called Key Sir Alicha.
ReplyDeleteI can't even choose just one...love ethiopian, love greek, love india...love them all!
ReplyDeleteI love mexican food, not tex-mex but real mex.
ReplyDeletekarenreichmann@hotmail.com
I just love Mexican food! I can't help it!
ReplyDeleteVery nice recipe, thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteJoint Replacement India
I love Middle Eastern (Arabic) food, but that's because I was Raised on it. But, if I had to choose another, I'd go for Thai Food. Cuban Would be my Next Choice!
ReplyDeleteHmmm, my favorite ethnic cuisine? That's a very tough question. My first thought was Ethiopian so I'd better stick with that. This cookbook looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI pinned and tweeted this recipe and the saffron rice from Cake Duchess. Yum!
ReplyDeleteJapanese! I'm a big fan of fish and enjoy how incredibly fresh and relatively healthy Japanese cuisine can be.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite ethnic cuisine is carribean! Great savoury dishes, and desserts.
ReplyDeleteThat's a tough question because I'm a Gemini, so I have lots of "favorites"...so this week I choose Mexican!
ReplyDeleteadb6{at}humboldt{dot}edu
I guess I'd pick Japanese or Chinese because I don't think Tex-Mex counts! haha!
ReplyDeleteYour tagine looks amazing. And this is totally like asking me to choose my favourite child. Okay, no, er, I don't actually know what that would be like but, Indian. I kind of have to... being partly Indian and all and just having had naan bread with dal. Second favourite would definitely be Middle Eastern. This book looks amazing. Wonder where I can find it in the UK.... I'll be on the lookout.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite ethnic cuisine would be Indian
ReplyDeleteFor me it has to be the Spanish cuisine: I never get tired of it.
ReplyDeleteThis week my favorite is Thai!
